"My whole life is helping people." - Jack LaLanne. He encouraged others to take positive action by having a healthy lifestyle. Vigorous exercise, quality nutrition, and an optimistic attitude are the keys to betterment.
Timeline of select events
- 1914 - Born in San Francisco, California
- 1928 - Was a sickly youth, a self-described sugarholic, and drops out of high school
- 1929 - Goes with his mother to a health seminar conducted by Paul Bragg. Jack quits eating sugar and starts consuming healthy foods and exercising.
- 1936 - Opens one of the first modern health studios in Oakland, California, and creates a leg extension machine
- 1951 - The Jack LaLanne Show is broadcast on TV locally in San Francisco
- 1955 - Swims while handcuffed from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf of San Francisco, California
- 1959 - Marries Elaine Doyle
- 1959 - The Jack LaLanne Show airs on TV nationally until 1985
- 1974 - Repeats the 1955 Alcatraz swim feat while towing a 1000 pound boat
- 1980 - In North Miami, Florida, swims and tows 10 boats with 77 people in excess of a mile
- 1994 - Receives a Lifetime Achievement Award from The State Of California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness
- 2002 - Receives a star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk Of Fame, 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California
- 2011 - Passes away at the age of 96 in Morro Bay, California
